Welding PPE certification

The welding workplace loads protective equipment with heat, molten-metal splash and mechanical wear at once — which is why PPE intended for welding is certified against its own family of standards.

Which products?

  • welder's gloves (EN 12477) — Type A and Type B;
  • welding protective clothing (EN ISO 11611) — Class 1 and 2;
  • footwear for welding and allied processes (EN ISO 20349-2).

Why a dedicated standard family?

In welding the risk is combined: molten metal splash, short-duration flame and radiant heat, and mechanical abrasion hit the equipment together. The welding standards therefore impose combined requirements — a general mechanical or thermal standard alone is not sufficient to demonstrate conformity.

The procedure

  1. Enquiry: identifying the product and the applicable standard(s).
  2. Technical documentation submission per Regulation (EU) 2016/425.
  3. EU type-examination (Module B), with the surveillance module matching the category.
  4. Certificate on a conforming result.
