EN ISO 20349-2:2017 + A1:2020 — successor of EN ISO 20349:2010The former combined foundry+welding standard was split: Part 1 covers foundry risks (FE/AL), Part 2 welding. A1:2020 added no new test — it added a marking note and an informative heat-protection annex.
At the review date EN ISO 20349-2:2017+A1:2020 is harmonised under Regulation (EU) 2016/425 (cited 9 December 2022, Decision (EU) 2022/2414). The EU Official Journal defines the status at any given time.
What does the standard require?
- Built on safety footwear: it also provides the EN ISO 20345 protections (200 J toecap and so on)
- Molten-metal splash protection ("WG" mark): the upper must withstand at least 25 small splashes before the inside temperature rises by 40 °C
- Burning behaviour: after 10 seconds of flame contact the material may burn or glow for at most 2 seconds
- Welding-specific design: minimum upper design rules, and no upward-facing seams in the front area where spatter could lodge
Classes and levels: No graded levels: construction Class I/II + the "WG" mark, with optional HI/HRO/P/E/M/CR extras.
