Clothing protecting against heat and flame: limited flame spread plus performance levels against convective (B), radiant (C) and contact (F) heat and molten-metal splash (D, E).

EN ISO 11612:2015 — successor of EN ISO 11612:2008The first major revision in a decade is under way at ISO (FDIS stage in 2025); as of the review date the EN edition is 2015.
Important: no edition of EN ISO 11612 is cited on the harmonised list under Regulation (EU) 2016/425 — it confers no presumption of conformity; EU type-examination applies it as recognised state of the art. The EU Official Journal defines the status at any given time.
What does the standard require?
- Limited flame spread (ISO 15025): A1 surface, A2 edge ignition — afterflame ≤ 2 s, no hole formation ≥ 5 mm, no flaming or molten debris
- Convective heat (ISO 9151): levels B1–B3 (HTI24: 4–10 / 10–20 / ≥ 20 s)
- Radiant heat (ISO 6942): levels C1–C4 (RHTI24: 7–20 / 20–50 / 50–95 / ≥ 95 s)
- Molten aluminium (D1–D3: 100–200 / 200–350 / ≥ 350 g) and molten iron (E1–E3: 60–120 / 120–200 / ≥ 200 g) splash per ISO 9185
- Contact heat (ISO 12127): levels F1–F3 (5–10 / 10–15 / ≥ 15 s); heat resistance at 180 °C without melting or dripping, shrinkage ≤ 5 %
Classes and levels: Code letters A–F on the label: A1/A2 mandatory, plus at least one of B–F with its level digit (e.g. "A1 B1 C1").
