Already have test reports?

Do not start by repeating every test. If the product, its materials or an earlier version has been tested already, send those reports first: BIMEO assesses what is already available and determines what additional testing, if any, the EU type-examination still requires.

What to send

  • the test reports on the product, its materials or its components — complete, showing the laboratory, the standard applied and the date of testing;
  • any EU type-examination certificate issued for the product or for an earlier version of it;
  • the technical documentation as far as it exists: product description, drawings or photographs, material data, user information;
  • the standard and class you are aiming for, and the markets you sell to.

Documents are exchanged electronically, in English or Hungarian. No samples are needed at this stage.

What the technical review looks at

Whether an existing result can be used is decided report by report. The review considers, among other things, whether the report relates to the product and materials now submitted, which standard and which edition of it the tests were carried out to, and how long ago the testing took place.

Under BIMEO's acceptance procedure, eligible test reports may be accepted up to 10 years after testing, subject to technical review. This does not mean that every report remains automatically acceptable for 10 years.

What you get back

A clear answer before you order anything: which of the existing results can be used, and which tests, if any, still have to be carried out. The quotation and the test plan then cover only what is missing. If a required test is outside our own laboratory's equipment, it is named at this point and sourced separately.

The decision remains a conformity-assessment decision

As a notified body, BIMEO acts impartially and independently. We do not promise in advance that a report will be accepted, and accepting one does not prejudge the outcome of the procedure: the certification decision is based on the applicable test results, the assessment of the technical documentation and the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to repeat tests that another laboratory has already carried out?

Not necessarily. Send the reports first: under our acceptance procedure they go through a technical review, which determines what can be used and whether any additional testing is required.

Is every test report accepted if it is less than 10 years old?

No. Ten years is the outer limit of our acceptance procedure, not a validity period: eligible test reports may be accepted up to 10 years after testing, subject to technical review. A more recent report can still be unusable, for example when the product or the standard has changed since the test.

Can I send the reports before asking for a quotation?

Yes, and it is the order we recommend: the quotation then covers only the work that is actually needed.

The product has changed since it was tested. Are the old reports useless?

That depends on what has changed. The technical review determines which results the change affects and which can still be used.

Have your existing test reports assessed

Tell us which product it is and what has been tested already; after sending the enquiry, e-mail the reports to bimeo@bimeo.hu. Our reply states what can be used and what is still required.
