EN ISO 11611

Protective clothing for welding

Protective clothing for welding and allied processes: flame and molten-spatter protection requirements (Class 1 and 2).

Current edition:

EN ISO 11611:2015 — successor of EN ISO 11611:2007

Internationally ISO 11611:2024 has appeared (adding UV-radiation requirements), but no European (EN) adoption has taken place as of the review date — the EN edition remains 2015.

Important: no edition of EN ISO 11611 is cited on the harmonised list under Regulation (EU) 2016/425 — it confers no presumption of conformity; EU type-examination applies it as recognised state of the art. The EU Official Journal defines the status at any given time.

What does the standard require?

Classes and levels: Class 1 (lower-risk techniques) and Class 2 (heavier-spatter techniques), with the A1/A2 flame-spread code.

Laboratory testing

Independent laboratory measurement of the properties behind this standard's requirements — for development, verification, disputes.

Certification (NB 1524)

The standard belongs to BIMEO's notified-body conformity-assessment scope — EU type-examination is available against it.

Technical content cross-checked against external sources. Last reviewed: 2026-08-14. The authoritative list of harmonised versions is always the EU Official Journal.
