Protective clothing for welding and allied processes: flame and molten-spatter protection requirements (Class 1 and 2).
Current edition:
EN ISO 11611:2015 — successor of EN ISO 11611:2007Internationally ISO 11611:2024 has appeared (adding UV-radiation requirements), but no European (EN) adoption has taken place as of the review date — the EN edition remains 2015.
Important: no edition of EN ISO 11611 is cited on the harmonised list under Regulation (EU) 2016/425 — it confers no presumption of conformity; EU type-examination applies it as recognised state of the art. The EU Official Journal defines the status at any given time.
What does the standard require?
- Limited flame spread (ISO 15025): code A1 (surface ignition) and/or A2 (edge ignition)
- Molten-droplet spatter (ISO 9150): Class 1 ≥ 15 drops, Class 2 ≥ 25 drops before a 40 K temperature rise
- Radiant heat (ISO 6942): Class 1 RHTI24 ≥ 7 s, Class 2 ≥ 16 s
- Electrical insulation tested per EN 1149-2 — against short accidental contact up to roughly 100 V DC
- Design rules against spatter lodging (covered pockets, minimal external seams); general requirements via EN ISO 13688
Classes and levels: Class 1 (lower-risk techniques) and Class 2 (heavier-spatter techniques), with the A1/A2 flame-spread code.
