Gloves for manual metal welding: combined mechanical and thermal requirements (Type A and Type B).

EN 12477:2001+A1:2005

A1:2005 clarified the electrical requirement for arc welding (vertical resistance > 10⁵ Ω per EN 1149-2). The standard is formally under revision (prEN 12477); no new edition is published.

At the review date EN 12477:2001 with its A1:2005 amendment is harmonised under Regulation (EU) 2016/425 (since 21 April 2018). The EU Official Journal defines the status at any given time.

What does the standard require?

Marking on the product: Type A or Type B

welders’ gloves: Type A = higher thermal exposure (e.g. MMA welding); Type B = higher dexterity (e.g. TIG)
