Firefighter PPE certification
Firefighter protective equipment is Category III PPE: it protects against mortal risk, so it is certified on the strictest conformity-assessment route — EU type-examination plus ongoing production surveillance.
Which products?
- firefighter footwear (EN 15090) — for firefighting and rescue operations;
- firefighter's gloves (EN 659) — with combined thermal, flame and mechanical requirements.
Why the strictest route?
Category III covers PPE against risks that can cause death or irreversible harm to health. EU type-examination (Module B) alone is not sufficient here: the manufacturer must also maintain the conformity of series production with a notified body's involvement — through supervised product checks at random intervals (Module C2) or quality assurance of the production process (Module D).
