EN ISO 17249:2013 + AC:2014 — successor of EN ISO 17249:2004AC:2014 is an editorial corrigendum. A full revision is under way (ISO/DIS 17249); no new edition is published as of the review date.
At the review date EN ISO 17249:2013 (with AC:2014) is harmonised under Regulation (EU) 2016/425 (since 21 April 2018) with no withdrawal date — the cited edition is also the current one. The EU Official Journal defines the status at any given time.
What does the standard require?
- Safety footwear first: the EN ISO 20345 classification and requirements (200 J toecap) also apply
- Chainsaw cut resistance tested with a real chain; the anti-cut insert covers the front (vamp) area
- Protective principle: fibres of the insert clog the drive sprocket and stop the chain
- Intended as part of the chainsaw PPE ensemble (with trousers, gloves, head protection)
Classes and levels: Class 1 = 20 m/s, Class 2 = 24 m/s, Class 3 = 28 m/s chain speed.
