EN ISO 11393-4:2019 — successor of EN 381-7:1999The worldwide EN ISO 11393 series replaced the European EN 381 series in 2019–2020; since 19 November 2021 new certifications must use the new standard. An old EN 381-7 certificate stays valid until expiry; renewal requires assessment against EN ISO 11393-4.
At the review date EN ISO 11393-4:2019 is harmonised under Regulation (EU) 2016/425 (cited 19 May 2020, Decision (EU) 2020/668). The EU Official Journal defines the status at any given time.
What does the standard require?
- Cut protection tested with a real running chain at the specified speed; the class states the chain speed withstood
- Type 1: chainsaw protection in both gloves; Type 2: in the left-hand glove only
- Design A: protected area on the back of the hand; Design B: extending over the back of the hand and four fingers
- Besides cut protection, the EN 388 mechanical and EN ISO 21420 general requirements also apply
Marking on the product: class (0–3) + design (A/B)
