Gloves against dangerous chemicals
Requirements for chemical-resistant gloves: Type A/B/C classification based on permeation, penetration and degradation testing.

EN ISO 374-1:2016 + A1:2018 — successor of EN 374-1:2003The 2016 revision introduced Types A/B/C, extended the test-chemical list from 12 to 18, made degradation testing mandatory, and moved micro-organism protection to a separate part (374-5).
At the review date the harmonised list cites the base EN ISO 374-1:2016 (since 21 April 2018); the consolidated +A1:2018 version has not been cited separately. The EU Official Journal defines the status at any given time.
What does the standard require?
- Permeation testing (EN 16523-1) against chemicals chosen from the 18-item, letter-coded (A–T) list
- Permeation levels by breakthrough time: levels 1–6 at > 10 / 30 / 60 / 120 / 240 / 480 minutes
- Penetration testing per EN ISO 374-2: air-leak and water-leak tests
- Mandatory degradation testing (EN ISO 374-4): the result must be reported per chemical in the user information
Classes and levels: Type A: ≥ 6 chemicals at level 2 (30 min); Type B: ≥ 3 chemicals at level 2; Type C: ≥ 1 chemical at level 1 (10 min). Marking: Erlenmeyer-flask pictogram + type + code letters.
Marking on the product: Type A / B / C + chemical code letters
chemical-resistant gloves by permeation time: Type A ≥ 6 chemicals 30 min; Type B ≥ 3 chemicals 30 min; Type C ≥ 1 chemical 10 min. The letters identify the chemicals tested.
