Brief History of BIMEO Ltd.

The company BIMEO Ltd. came into being from the reorganization of the Leather Quality Control Department (BIMEO) of the former Research and Development Company for the Leather and Shoe Industry (BCK or BKI). Its predecessor, called BIMEI was established in 1949 and in 1953 it joined the research institute of that time. The unit performed its activities as an independent department of BCK until the end of 1991, being the quality control institute of the leather and shoe industry. Due to the changes experienced in the 90's gradually it became impossible to carry on its activities: first it was subject to final statement and than it was liquidated. BIMEO was the only department, which could cope with the challenges of the new economic orders.

BIMEO Testing and Research Ltd. was founded on 1^st  February, 1992. The company was officially registered by the Metropolitan Court of Registration on 31^st March, 1992 under registration number 01-09-165164. The short name of the company is BIMEO Ltd.

BIMEO Ltd. was founded by the former testing institute and 9 different leather and shoe manufacturing firms. In due course many changes has occurred in the ownership structure: two times capital increase due to new members; several times changes of the members. Currently BIMEO has a capital of 8.140 million HUF at its disposal, and is signed by 25 proprietors (leather and shoe manufacturers and distributors, a company from the plastic industry, private individuals).
